SS railing and staircase work across Delhi NCR

Everything about a stainless railing comes down to one number nobody puts on the quote: the grade of the steel. Most of the cheap SS railing sold in Delhi is 202, and 202 rusts. It takes about two monsoons on a road-facing balcony, and by then the man who fitted it is not answering.

The railing work we do

Balcony runs, staircases and full staircase structures. Joints are welded and buffed back rather than slot-fitted, because a slot-fit connector is quick to put up and works loose about as quickly.

01
Stainless steel railing with toughened glass infill panels

SS glass railing

Stainless posts and a top handrail with toughened glass panels between them. It is the most common thing we are asked for: you get the view through the glass and the steel does the structural work, which makes it cheaper and more forgiving than a fully frameless glass railing.

Posts
SS 304, 1.5in or 2in, matt or mirror
Glass
10mm or 12mm toughened infill
Best for
Balconies, terraces, long runs
02

Baluster railings

Vertical stainless balusters between posts, no glass at all. Nothing to clean, nothing to break, and it suits a staircase far better than most people expect. It is also the cheapest railing we make.

Section
1in verticals, 2in top rail
Gauge
16 gauge wall as standard
Best for
Internal stairs, corridors, budget runs
03

Staircase railings

Fixed to the side of the stringer or on top of the treads, following the rake. The set-out matters here more than the material: a handrail whose angle does not match the stair rake reads as wrong from the bottom of the flight even if nobody can say why.

Height
900mm from tread nosing
Fixing
Side of stringer, or top of tread
Best for
Houses, offices, showrooms, duplexes
04

Full staircase fabrication

The structure as well as the railing: stringers, treads and landings, usually a steel structure with wood, stone or glass treads over it. This is workshop work with a site erection, so drawings and a survey come before anything is cut.

Structure
MS stringer with SS cladding, or full SS
Treads
Timber, stone or toughened glass
Best for
Duplexes, showrooms, mezzanines

What to check before you accept a railing quote

The grade: 202, 304 or 316

SS 202 uses manganese in place of nickel. It is cheaper, it looks identical on day one, and it develops rust spots outdoors in Delhi within about two years. SS 304 is the honest minimum for anything exposed. SS 316 is for pool surrounds and coastal work. Ask for the grade in writing on the quote and on the invoice. A magnet is a rough field check, not proof.

Wall thickness, not just diameter

A 2in top rail sounds substantial. If it is 20 gauge it will dent when someone leans a ladder on it. We work in 16 gauge as standard on handrails, and you can feel the difference by tapping it. The quote should say the gauge.

Welded and buffed, or slot-fitted

Slot-fit connectors screw the pipes together and go up fast. They also work loose, and once a joint moves it never sits right again. We weld the joints and buff them back so the run reads as one piece, which takes longer and lasts.

Mirror finish or matt

Mirror looks impressive on the day and shows every fingerprint, water spot and scratch afterwards. Matt, sometimes sold as hairline or satin, wears far better and is what we would suggest for a stair anyone actually uses.

What it costs

Quoted on measurement

Priced per running foot for railings, and per job for a full staircase. The steel grade, the pipe gauge and whether the infill is glass or balusters move the figure more than anything else, so we quote all of those by name and you can put our figure next to anyone else's and compare like with like.

What moves the number

Steel grade: 304 or 316 Biggest factor
Pipe size and wall gauge 16 gauge standard
Infill: glass or balusters Glass adds
Finish: matt or mirror Mirror adds
Welded and buffed joints Included as standard
Running length Longer runs, better rate

GST extra. The grade and gauge are stated on the quote and on the invoice.

We have not put our stainless and staircase photos online yet. Ask on WhatsApp and we will send a set from recent jobs near you, with the grade and finish used on each.

01

Site measurement

We measure the run and, on a staircase, the rake and the tread nosings. A railing set out to a drawing rather than to the stair as built is the commonest reason a handrail ends up at the wrong height at the top of the flight.

02

Workshop fabrication

Pipes cut and mitred, joints welded and buffed back at the workshop rather than on your stair. That is why the finished run has no visible connectors and why there is no grinding dust through your house.

03

Erection and finishing

Base plates fixed and levelled, sections brought together and any site welds buffed out on the spot. Glass infill goes in last. Then you pull on it, hard, before we take the balance.

Questions we get on every ss railings & staircases job

What is the difference between SS 202 and SS 304?

SS 202 replaces some of the nickel with manganese to bring the price down. It looks the same as 304 when it is new and it develops rust spots outdoors in Delhi within roughly two years, faster on a road-facing balcony. SS 304 is the honest minimum for anything exposed to weather. We work in 304 as standard and use 316 where there is chlorine or salt around.

How much does SS railing cost per running foot?

It depends on the grade, the pipe gauge and whether the infill is glass or balusters, which is why we quote after measuring rather than over the phone. A baluster railing in 304 is the least expensive thing we make; SS posts with toughened glass infill costs more; a full fabricated staircase is priced as a job.

How can I tell if a railing is really 304 grade?

Ask for the grade in writing on both the quote and the invoice, and keep it. A magnet is a rough field indicator only, not proof, and the two grades look identical when new. The real test is time, which is exactly the problem with buying on price alone.

Should the joints be welded or slot-fitted?

Welded and buffed. Slot-fit connectors go up faster and cost less, and they work loose over time; once a joint has moved it never sits properly again. We weld and buff the joints back so the run reads as a single piece.

Mirror finish or matt?

Matt, for anything that gets used. A mirror finish looks impressive on handover day and then shows every fingerprint, water spot and scratch. Matt, also sold as hairline or satin, wears far better on a stair or a balcony that people actually touch.

Do you make full staircases as well as railings?

Yes. Stringers, treads and landings, either an MS structure clad in stainless or fully in stainless, with timber, stone or toughened glass treads. That work starts with a survey and drawings, because the structure has to be right before anything is cut.

Send the run length. We will measure it properly.

A photograph of the stair or balcony with an approximate running length is enough to start. Measurement is free anywhere in NCR and there is nothing to sign after it.
